Compassion Challenge

In conjunction with the Ministry of Quebec’s Bullying prevention week, MGS launched a kindness challenge! Students were recognized for compassionate actions (being respectful, showing kindness, being careful) in common areas like the playground and hallways. Staff gave these students paper links recognizing their kind and compassionate actions. Our challenge was to see if we could make a chain that would lead all the way around the gymnasium! On April 24 we held an assembly to show the students the progress, as well as the results of the anti-bullying poster contest. The posters are now being displayed around the school.

Writing Contest a Great Success!

Hey there Grace in Grade 4 & our Grade 5 Students! A huge shout-out to everyone who participated in the writing contest! You’ve shown incredible creativity, hard work, and dedication to your writing. Whether you won or not, each of you should be so proud of the effort you put in. Keep writing, keep imagining, and keep sharing your amazing ideas. You’re all winners in our eyes! – Ms. Contant and Ms. Candy

Artists Inspire!

Our Grades 3 and 4 students  had the wonderful opportunity to work with a clay artist through the Artist Inspire grant. The students were taught the “scratch and slip” technique to create a small hippopotamus sculpture.

One of their favourite parts? Throwing the clay against the ground to remove air bubbles, which prevents the sculptures from exploding in the kiln. Once the sculptures dried for three weeks, the students painted their creations with beautiful blue, green or red glazes.

After being fired in the kiln, the artist brought the sculptures back to the students to enjoy at home. Way to go Mary Gardner students for being such superstar artists!
